Merter Özay graduated from Marmara University and is admitted to Istanbul Bar Association. He earned his master’s degree at Galatasaray University, Institute of Social Sciences and he is currently a Ph.D. candidate on Private Law at Galatasaray University. He mainly focuses on Real Estate Law, Contracts Law, Litigation – Dispute Resolution, Commercial Law, Labour Law, Law of Obligations, Intellectual Property Law and retail, franchise, unions, lease, construction in return for flat, reconstruction are the areas of his expertise.

After working at various law firms and as a self-employed lawyer, Mr. Özay served as a legal director at the major foreign capitalized group of companies in Turkey related to retail and real-estate for over 10 years. He was also appointed as a member of the executive board and the board of directors within such group of companies.

He has actively participated in sectorial associations, showed attendance to the legislation movements, and provided training at several seminars.
He is the author of numerous published articles as well as the book on legal liability of physicians. He is also a trademark attorney before the Turkish Patent Institute.
